How to use these guides
Most blockchain projects that fail don't fail on code. They fail on a wrong assumption made in the first month. The guides are written to surface those assumptions early.
Check you need a chain at all
A shared database with good access control solves many problems pitched as blockchain problems. Each guide says when a ledger earns its complexity and when it doesn't.
Understand the moving parts
Contracts, wallets, custody, oracles, indexers, matching engines, KYC: we break each product into the components you'll actually have to build, buy or integrate.
Scope cost and risk honestly
Instead of a single price tag, you get the drivers: team shape, audit scope, licensing, liquidity and maintenance. Then you can sanity-check any quote you're given.
What "blockchain app development" means in 2026
The term covers very different kinds of work. A token launch is mostly smart contract engineering, an audit and legal review. A crypto exchange is mostly conventional backend engineering, plus custody, compliance and liquidity. An NFT ticketing system is a web or mobile product where the chain handles ownership and resale rules. An enterprise ledger is closer to systems integration than to anything in DeFi.
That's why these guides are organized by product rather than by technology. Start with smart contract development if you're shipping on-chain logic, decentralized exchange development if you're building trading infrastructure, tokenization platforms if you're bringing real-world assets on-chain, or enterprise blockchain if you're coordinating data between organizations.
Two things apply to nearly every project. First, security is a budget line, not a phase: plan for an independent audit and for monitoring after launch. Second, regulation now shapes product design from day one. Frameworks such as the EU's MiCA and the US GENIUS Act for stablecoins mean exchanges, stablecoins and token sales need legal input before architecture is fixed. The regional guide covers the main jurisdictions.
Frequently asked questions
Is Blockchain App Maker a development agency?
No. This site is an independent publication. It explains how blockchain products are built so you can plan a project and evaluate the teams you talk to. We don't sell development services, and no guide here is a sales page.
Where should I start if I'm new to blockchain development?
Read the guide for the product you're considering, then the guides for its main components. For most products that means smart contracts, wallets and security audits. The "how to evaluate a team" sections help when you begin talking to vendors.
How much does it cost to build a blockchain application?
It depends far more on scope than on the chain. A single audited token contract and a full exchange with custody and licensing are different orders of magnitude. Each guide lists the specific cost drivers for that product, so you can turn a vague idea into a scoped estimate.
Is the information here financial or legal advice?
No. The guides are educational. Anything involving token sales, exchanges, securities or licensing needs advice from a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.
